My son was working on a writing assignment tonight. It's the Morning Message assignment, he'll get this every two weeks or so. He's to write about his recent experiences, and it's shared with the class in the morning (hence the name "Morning Message". Ingenious, eh?)
He brought me his first draft, and then before I could read it said, "Wait a minute! I need to find you a red pen."
How about that? A writer who knows that first drafts include errors? I've taught him well!
And truthfully, his draft was very good. No spelling mistakes, one instance of "an" needed instead of "a", a few periods/capitalizations needed. I'm impressed!
