As only a 3 year old can come up with them. Today Liam's treasures for me included an old coaster, the eraser from the chalkboard, a cloth ball with a rattle in it, a plastic ball, and his "old teddy" (he's learning the concept of old and is using it at every opportunity... I was then not permitted to share said old teddy with his baby sister, who kept coming over saying "bah bah" which she generally reserves for these particular dolls with plastic arms and head and a bean bag body, but who am I to argue if she wants to consider stuffed teddy bears bah bahs as well. The way I see it, that's one more substitute I can whip out in the VERY likely event that I lose or misplace all of her bah bahs. But Liam was having none of it, so I had to balance all of this shit, I mean TREASURE, on my very small desk, on top of all of my shit, I mean VERY IMPORTANT STUFF.
Mind you, this is the very same boy who the other day at a quiet moment told me "I love you mommy." Which always melts my heart. Then the next part "We're going to get married!" How do you not laugh hysterically when hearing that? How precious!
Not to get too mushy, but every once in a while I think it's really a gift we have as parents to witness these moments of growing up, finding identity, experiencing love. It's so pure, so true, so unbiased. It's really pretty neat. Even when the teddy bear topples onto my keyboard and accidentally closes windows I had been working on...
